Located in Higashi Ward's Kengun area of Kumamoto City, this municipal zoo and botanical garden offers a delightful mix of flora and fauna. It also features an amusement park zone complete with a ferris wheel and other fun rides. In the animal zone, visitors can marvel at popular animals like elephants and giraffes, as well as rarer creatures such as the golden snub-nosed monkey, believed to be the inspiration behind the legendary character Sun Wukong. There's also a petting area where guests can get up close and personal with some of the animals.
The botanical zone offers a tranquil retreat with a tropical plant conservatory and a consultation desk where visitors can ask questions about plants. The garden’s fields bloom with seasonal flowers, with nanohana blossoms in spring and cosmos flowers in autumn, and is a great spot to enjoy the beauty of the changing seasons.
