This shrine is located within Suizenji Jojuen Garden, a National Scenic Spot and Historic Site and a renowned sightseeing spot in Kumamoto. Izumi Shrine was founded in 1878 by former retainers of the Kumamoto domain, wishing for the reconstruction of war-torn Kumamoto after the Satsuma Rebellion.
It enshrines past lords of the Higo domain, including Hosokawa Fujitaka (Yusai) and his wife Gracia. Visitors to the gardens can come to pay their respects while enjoying the scenery. Praying here is believed to provide good health, prosperity in business, and academic success.
