OFFICIAL KUMAMOTO TOURISM GUIDE

Sightseeing

Kajiyamachi-dori Street

This street retains the charm of the castle town of Hitoyoshi, with its picturesque cobblestone paths and white-walled merchant houses. During the era of rule by the Sagara family, it was known for its many blacksmiths, producing blades, guns, and agricultural tools. Today, one blacksmith remains, and the street is lined with other shops, including a miso and soy sauce brewery, tea shop, Western-style restaurants, and cafes. Close to Hitoyoshi Station, it's a popular spot for a stroll. At the Unsun Karuta House, visitors can try their hand at a local card game that has roots in Portugal.
