This tea garden was established in 1688 by Matsui Naoyuki, the third lord of Yatsushiro Castle, in honor of his mother, the nun Suho Inni. At the time of its creation, it was possible to gaze across the garden and see the sandy beaches and pine trees of Yatsushiro Sea, which is why it was also known as the Beach Tea House. The main gate is a simplified version of a daimyo's long house gate (kabukimon), and the entrance features a karahafu gable and raised floor, demonstrating its high status. Located in Fukiage, the tea house consists of a two-story thatch-roof building and persimmon-thatched annex, both of which are reflected in the pond. On the first Sunday in June, when the Higo hanashobu flowers are in full bloom, a tea ceremony in the Higo Koryu tradition is held within the garden, attracting large crowds.
