Amakusa area

Yushima (Dango-jima)

Yushima is famous as an island of cats where the number of cats is said to be larger than local people. Also, this island is called “Dangou-Jima” because of its history that local people once had some meetings, or Dangou, here, at the time of Shimabara-Amakusa Rebellion.

It takes about 25 minutes from Ebito Port to Yushima by liner, which is operated 5 round-trip a day. Local special vegetable, “Yushima Daikon”, and fresh seafood attract many visitors, you can also enjoy interacting with local people. Staying at Japanese inns or guest houses is also recommended to spend relaxing time in the island.
