The Amakusa Gokyo Bridges refer to 5 bridges (Bridge No.1: Tenmon-bashi; Bridge No.2: Ooyano bashi; Bridge No.3: Nakano hashi; Bridge No.4: Maeshima bashi; Bridge No.5: Matsushima bashi), linking the Kyushu mainland and the Amakusa islands, a total distance of 12km, and are renowned as the ”Amakusa Pearl Line.” The construction was completed in September 1966. The construction of the Amakusa Gokyo Bridges was initially advocated by Mr. Jishu Mori, and seemed at that time to be an unrealistic dream. It is nowadays a regular tourist attraction, and a popular driving route.
