Confectionery shop Tenmeido’s “Sake Castella” that can make you get drunk with its moist texture and mellow flavor

Founded in the Edo period, the well-established confectionery shop “Tenmeido” offers “Sake Castella” that is famous for its smooth and delicate texture, prepared carefully by using the representative Daiginjo Japanese sake of “Zuiyo Sake Brewery”, located in the same area, Kawashiri. The scent of Daiginjo sake will stand out if the soft pastry is cooled.

This product was developed by the seventh generation owner, Mr. Kitagawa, based on the idea of brandy cakes, to revitalize the town.

Happy moments brought by sweets - Chez Tani’s Baumkuchen “Yamasho” and Japanese-Western sweet “Ichinoryo”

Based on the wish “to create things that make people happy”, which has not changed since the business started, “Chez Tani” offers meticulously-prepared sweets with unique tastes that can not be found anywhere else. Its Baumkuchen, “Yamasho”, is prepared in a longer time than usual, making it crisp outside and plump inside.

“Yamasho” was named as an evolved form of the rose. The finished product has a well-balanced taste with a reduced dough sweetness and a layer of sugar on the uneven part of the mountain-shaped design. (730 yen per piece)

“Ichinoryo” is a new type “Western-Japanese sweet” made from moist and smooth dough, in which the cake taste of Western-style confectionery and refined sweetness of Japanese confectionery are mixed. “Ichinoryo” (650 yen for 5 pieces)

An original texture! The colorful and vibrant-looking Hanamarudo’s “Chilled Ikinari Dango”

“Hanamarudo” is a specialty shop that makes and sells safe and secure Ikinari Dango (steamed buns with bean jam and sweet potato filling), each of which is carefully prepared by skilled experts. They only use Kyushu-produced sweet potatoes and red beans and navy beans from Hokkaido. The secret dough has a specific character that it does not harden quickly even when it is chilled.

A new type of steamed buns that can be chilled and enjoyed like a dessert. Original texture with the crunchy sweet potato filling.

Please enjoy the classic “black bean paste bun” and the “purple sweet potato bun” that is loved by the ladies. With its large size, you can feel full just by eating one!

Products created using Kumamoto’s abundant resources and carefully crafted by the hands of artisans selected by Urban Research. Everything is handmade by skilled artisans who spend time and effort to make sure that their products can please those who receive them as souvenirs.

Flower-patterned box of “Sumioka Local Craft Workshop” with its colorful camellia pattern is famous as a box for to keep a young girl’s precious treasures. Many sizes are available.

Heisei Amakusa Shirasa of “Nonoya” uses 10 sheets of paper pattern and a lot of time and effort to color repeatedly in creating one design. Everything is done by hand, so no two products are the same.

The “Brown Sugar Donut Bars” of Kumamoto’s fine confectionery is characterized by the refreshing sweetness of brown sugar that penetrates deep into the dough. This is an original package of Urban Research, which is very popular as a souvenir!

Utogara’s “Handtowels and Postcards” that conveys the feelings and charms for the region in their designs

“Utogara” = “Uto Pattern” is a design that represents the resources and events of Uto, which is designed and produced by the members of a volunteer group of Uto City, with Fumihiro Uehara as the designer-in-charge. There is a story in every pattern of this collection of work full of local love. With its rich pattern variety, the cute products will probably make you want to collect all.

“Utogara” Washcloth (1080 yen per piece). Enjoy the feeling of Uto in the pattern of each product.

KoKIN’ ‘‘Original Masking Tape”, a work crafted carefully by artisans, recommended by a popular store

The “KoKIN” General Store and Cafe, which is located at the streets of Yatsushiro, sells original masking tapes with patterns such as “Myoken Festival”, “the town connected with the sea”, “Hinagu Hot Spring”, “Higo Rokka”, and various other patterns related to the local customs of Yatsuhiro and Kumamoto. The tapes are thin but highly resilient. They have an excellent adhesion ability and can be peeled off without leaving any unwanted marks.

This is a Made-in-Japan, completely original masking tape designed by Nana Kakuda, a painter who was born in Yatsushiro, and Harukaze Kobo, a Yuzen artist.
