Isshingyo Sakura Tree

The big cherry tree is over 400 years old

Key Sights
”Issingyo no Oozakura (The big cherry tree of issingyo)” of Minamiaso-mura is very popular, and Sakura blossoms in full glory in Spring. The cherry tree is over 400 years old, 14 m in hight, and about the diameter of the branch, the east-west is 21.3 m, the north-south is 26.0 m. It’s the largest class as the cherry tree. It’s belonging to Yamazakura, and the time of bloom is from the end of March to the beginning of April.

Kikuchi Park is a spot for the magical cherry light up at night, the approach to Kikuchi Shrine is like a cherry flower tunnel, and it is one of the most famous flower watching spots in the city indeed.

Suizenji Seishinen

Various events where you can fully enjoy the culture and history of Kumamoto will be held at the Suizenji Jojuen Garden area, a sightseeing spot as popular as the Kumamoto Castle. There is also a pavilion in the circuit-style garden that is unique to Japanese gardens, and we recommend you to enjoy the view of places such as the Izumi Shrine where successive lords of the Higo Hosokawa family and Garasha Hosokawa are enshrined while strolling along the walkway. You can have a cherry blossom viewing party at the grass field.

Hitoyoshi Castle Remains

Hitoyoshi Castel Remains is a designated national historical heritage. It’s famous by the 230 Somei-yoshino in the spot as a cherry blossom spot with a huge number of visitor in spring. Together with the cherry trees in Sagara Gokoku Shrine and along the Kumagawa river, the scenic spot is perfect for a relaxing walk.

A 5-km long motorway along the coastal line of Shiranuikai Sea with trees of cherry blossoms. There are also cherry blossom watching cruises in the peak season. Visitors can also choose to watch the flowers from the nearby Osakihana Park and Wadamisaki Park.

Senganzan Park

The Ariake Sea expands out from the observation deck at the top of 162m above sea level, and overlooks Amakusa Gobashi. The contrast between the cherry blossoms that dye the mountains and the blue sea will result in gasps.
